The art of trompe l'oeil has been around for ages, enhancing the finest homes, churches and public buildings. Now you can bring it into your home.
Step-by-Step Trompe L’Oeil teaches you all the skills you’ll need, provides a brief history of the art of trompe l'oeil, then takes you every step of the way through the creation of eight realistic paintings that focus on detail and perspective to trick the eye into thinking that what it's seeing is reality. Start small, and decorate a tray with a clever painting of breakfast goodies that look good enough to eat, then, turn a blank wall into an open door with a pretty view, make a wall niche with a fruit bowl inside magically appear and much more. You won't believe your eyes!

This book for me was informative and full of creative ideas. This book is great for showing step by step creative processes cumulating in a finished product. Although there are not pattern's per say in this book, (patterns were not mentioned in the purchasing notations), there are many step-by-step guidelines depicting the steps needed to complete a project. The key elements for me were the step-by-step guidelines for projects that could be easily repeated and the use of detail's vs perspective. I would recommend this book for a gift and or as a companion book to an experienced artists library.

The book is well written for step to step instruction and pictures are nice, but unlikely ones you can use. Not a good book, if your looking for ideas and patterns you can use on your home or smaller projects.

If you are looking for a book with patterns and ideas this is not the book for you. If you are looking for a great 'know how' book then this is the book for you. While the contents were not exactly what I was expecting I would recommend this book and I will use it. It is an excellant resource to use any object and turn it into a Trope L'Oeil painting.
