Dear Book Club Friends, Collecting is our passion! We have made friends, had fun at shows and events across the country, and bought a houseful of “treasures.” The first Kovels price guide in 1967 listed things over 100 years old at a maximum price of $999. The 2010 book has prices from 25 cents to over $10,000! Today, we list “modern” collectibles, as well as antiques because there is a strong market for them. In Kovels’ Antiques & Collectibles Price Guide, you'll find items that are only ten years old, like Star Wars toys, Fiesta pottery, political buttons, sports memorabilia, and perfume bottles. There is a continuing interest in furniture, glass, and ceramics made since 1950, and these days we see costume jewelry, modernist silver, Roseville pottery and sewing paraphernalia (a result of the current economy, perhaps) are hot sellers. There are bargains to be had in Victorian furniture, tiles, studio pottery, and Arts and Crafts woodblock prints. But the rule is to buy what you like, what you can use, and the best you can afford.
