Martha Stewart's Cooking School

Imagine having Martha Stewart at your side in the kitchen, teaching you how to truss a chicken, transform 2½ pounds of boneless chuck into the most mouthwatering burger ever, make tortelloni and other filled pasta shapes, roast vegetables perfectly, bake a flawless pie crust and so much more. Well, we can’t send you the woman whose catering business seeded a lifestyle empire, but here’s the next best thing. In Martha Stewart’s Cooking School, you get just that: a culinary master class from Martha herself.

Arranged by cooking technique, it’s aimed at teaching you how to roast, broil, braise, stew, sauté, steam and poach with confidence and competence. Martha’s “Cook’s Golden Rules,” 25 pearls of wisdom such as “Balance the components of your meals. Pair rich dishes with lighter ones, vibrantly colored vegetables with deep brown meats,” should be heeded by novice and more seasoned cooks alike. The herb section alone is worth the price of this book, but don’t miss 175 original recipes with step-by-step photos that will help newbies and gifted home cooks alike put every essential cooking technique to work and perfectly delicious meals on the table. 500 color photos.

It's all good

This is definitely a "how to" book. It's good for the beginner, and the seasoned cook. As Martha always does, she shows you how to achieve "the desired results." I like that about about Martha, and I always have room for a better way of doing a recipe. It's a good book. It's better than I expected.

Like many of you, I have an extensive cookbook collection. Most of my books are good, some not so good, and a couple great ones. I'm not one to write reviews, but this book deserved my time. Buy it, you will pass this book down.
