Those dark and dismal cabinets that seem to suck the light out of what could be an otherwise cheery kitchen? That unfortunate wall-to-wall carpet in the guest bath? Now you see it…but soon you won’t! Your tired, old rooms can be fresh and exciting again before you know it with a little help from BH&G®. From the 43 room transformations (including three whole-house makeovers) to 20 do-it-yourself projects, Better Homes and Gardens® Before & After Decorating reveals cost-effective solutions that will take your home from boring to brilliant in no time. As you’ll see in hundreds of inspiring before-and-after photos, it could be as simple as pulling your seating away from the wall and throwing in a few pillows and a rug to anchor the space, changing window treatments and wall colors so that they no longer overshadow your home’s charming architectural features, adding a pop of color to a shadowy corner with wallpaper or a fresh coat of paint or slipcovering mismatched furniture to create a cohesive, stylish look. So, grab a cup of coffee, turn off the phone and settle down with this book for some expert inspiration—soon, your home’s ugly duckling past will be but a distant memory.

I found several wonderful ideas in this book, and at least one room featured has inspired me to create a mid-century modern reading/playroom, which is a new direction for my sense of style. Any book worth its weight stays in rotation on my nightstand, and I plan to refer back to this one again and again over the next several months.

After looking at the sneak peek, I am debating if I want to buy this book. I love before & after pictures because they DO show what a difference can be made with any changes. But I tend to agree with Virginia and Vicki P.; from what I saw, it looks like the "same-old, same-old" styles, colors, etc., that are always done. And, I too would like to see more books done on "real" homes - that everyday people live in; you know, mid-income, with kids, pets, smaller "real" budgets. And why is it, that none of these homes ever have pictures of people or family - only art that means nothing to the people living there? Still debating about buying.

I enjoyed this book. It had many pictures and gave me several ideas. I only wish the book would have shown more rooms from each house, it did have a home tour section at the back of the book, but it left me wanting more. Overall I did like this book, it was a joy to read.

I was disappointed in this book. I thought the makeovers were really blah. I subscribe to Better Homes and Gardens for the decorating info and the magazine has much more interesting and complex make overs. I'm getting tired of makeovers that look generic vs. have any personality from the home owner or the house's period. Everything is looking like a Target ad!

I love this book...Can't close because I want to review all the pictures and do it yourself stuff in it to see what I can use in my own home. I have no mansion but these kinds of books give you ideas to see what little things you can do in your own home to give yours a designer look. Loads of pictures.... Can't think of enough good things to say about it....JUST LOVE IT!!!!!!
