Sunlight filters in, the air is warm, the day is either just-born, high noon or winding down…if you’re on a well-apportioned, coordinated and clean porch, you’re lucky. You’re even luckier if you’ve brought the comfort of the indoors outdoors and created the perfect space to sleep and laze in, gather and dine in, and otherwise live in all year long. James T. Farmer III, the landscape and interior designer who also wowed us with A Time to Plant, now opens our eyes to the myriad ways to embrace porch living. The result? A gorgeous, lavishly illustrated guide that will inspire you to re-think, re-purpose and re-shape the space between your home, your garden and your neighborhood into a comfortable and stylish retreat. Color photos.

I enjoyed reading Porch Living. It gave me ideas for my own enclosed porch and the pictures are nice to look at. I'd like to see a book on how to decorate a porch on a budget! Overall its a nice book to leave out for casual, relaxed reading.

Eddiesmom, I think the author is trying to show how porch accessories help make the space more useful or more tied together design-wise. The captions to the photos explain why he's focusing on plates or plants or pillows. "Even the tableware nods in homage to the setting" for a closeup of a plate and bowl with a pattern of ducks, for example, or "tone-on-tone cushions and wicker soften the stonework structural elements of this porch." It's a little poetic, maybe, for a design guide, but I think any reader can extrapolate his points on how to make a porch a spot for entertaining, relaxing, visiting, sleeping, growing plants in pots...a lot of things!

Didn't like this book at all!!. If you want to know what to do with a porch swing...this would be the book for you. Most of ideas were a porch with swing, or porches with the same wicker chairs...also way too many closeups of plants, dishes, pillows and fruit bowls. Think half of the book is closeups of dishes and house plants....I wanted porch ideas, not what kind of dishes to buy! Didn't get one idea from this book.
